Bhutan and Maldives are the first countries to receive the COVID-19 vaccine from India as a goodwill gesture. Bhutan was sent 1.5 lakh doses of the Covishield vaccine, these have being procured by the government from the Serum Institute of India.

Maldives will also receive 1 lakh doses of Covishield later today. These have been granted free of cost to these countries as a goodwill gesture.
The same gesture is going to be extended to Bangladesh tomorrow. Nepal, Myanmar, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Mauritius would receive the vaccine in a few days.
Sources said exports in the first phase to some of these key partners would go as grants in aid as a goodwill gesture and following that there would be commercial deals to be honoured.
