Modi government's Ayushman Bharat healthcare scheme is now signing up with global startup spaces to reach individuals who would qualify for its Rs 5,00,000 per annum cover, the Business Standard reported.
The government has identified 21 companies, which include e-tailers Amazon, Walmart-owned Flipkart and ride-hailing cab service provider Uber, to negotiate and identify eligible employees and get them to register, the report said.
"Our plan is to reach 500 million people across the country. Our data and quality of reach in urban areas is not as good as in rural areas... So if the pilot with Uber succeeds, we are looking at similar tie-ups with private sector companies," Indu Bhushan, CEO, Ayushman Bharat was quoted as saying in the report.
Uber India CEO Pradeep Parameswaran told the paper that 40 percent of its partner-drivers will be eligible for the scheme. The report added that it has been a challenge for Ayushman Bharat to identify urban candidates.
