The government is all set to roll out Rs 20 coins for the first time in the country.
The ministry of finance on Wednesday issued a notification regarding the introduction of Rs 20 coins.
The new 12 edged (Polygon) coins of Rs 20 will be 27 millimetres in diameter with an outer ring made of nickel brass (copper: 65 percent, Zinc: 15 percent and nickel: 20 percent). The centrepiece will be made of nickel brass (copper: 75 percent, Zinc: 20 percent and nickel: 5 percent).
Further, the government is also releasing the new series of prototypes of coins of Re 1, Rs 2, Rs 5 and Rs 10.
The new ferritic stainless steel coins of Re 1 denomination will be 20 millimetres in diameter with a metal composition of iron (83 percent) and chromium (17 percent).
The metal composition of Rs 2 coin will be 23 millimetres in diameter with a metal composition of Ferritic Stainless Steel, iron (83 percent) and chromium (17 percent).
The new nickel brass coins of Rs 5 coin will be 25 millimetres in diameter with a metal composition of copper (75 percent), Zinc (20 percent) and nickel (05 percent).
The new Rs 10 coins will be 27 millimetres in diameter with an outer ring made of nickel brass with a metal composition of copper (75 percent), Zinc (20 percent) and nickel (5 percent). The centrepiece will be made of nickel brass (copper: 65 percent, Zinc: 15 percent and nickel: 20 percent).
