Card payments through mobile wallet will soon be possible, says report
Indian mobile wallet firms have received guidance from major card companies on integration process for interoperability, The Economic Times reported, citing sources.
The move is one step closer to offering customers card payment facility through mobile wallets, ET report said on Thursday.
The sources told the paper that Visa, MasterCard and RuPay held meetings with the prepaid payment instruments (PPI) licence holders in December.
According to the report, ‘interoperability’ implementation is required for technical compatibility for enabling the payment system to be used in line with other systems. Industry executives told the paper that it will take at least six months to implement the decision.
A Visa spokesperson confirmed the developments with the paper and said the card company is in talks with multiple wallet firms and has launched a fast-track programme for fintechs for quicker onboarding and certification.
