Amazon.com's online payment service arm, Amazon Pay is set to introduce an offline 'scan and push' service at neighbourhood stores, Mint reported.
Amazon has already established the offline payments service at apparel chain stores Shoppers Stop, in which it has a 5 percent stake, and will soon establish the necessary infrastructure at More, the report said citing three people familiar with the matter.
“We have begun introducing Amazon smile code, a new way for our customers to shop and pay at physical stores like Shoppers Stop, among others. Customers will soon find Amazon smile codes in neighbourhood retail stores, where they can scan and pay for their purchases seamlessly." an Amazon spokesperson told Mint.
Of all the transactions made, offline transactions account for 90 percent in India and exploring and tapping into the sector will bring in more advantage for Amazon, the report said.
