Petrol and diesel prices in Mumbai were recorded at Rs 88.18 per litre and Rs 79.11 per litre, respectively on Monday.
In New Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai, petrol prices remained unchanged at Rs 82.72 a litre, Rs 84.54 a litre and Rs 85.99 per litre, respectively.
However, diesel prices rose in three metros except Mumbai, with prices in Chennai inching towards an all time high of Rs 80 per litre mark. Diesel prices were at Rs 79.80 a litre in Chennai, Rs 75.46 a litre in New Delhi and Rs 77.31 a litre in Kolkata, respectively.
Since mid-August, the petrol and diesel prices had been on the rise after the daily price revision was introduced in mid-June last year. Various factors including rupee depreciation, high excise duty and rise in Brent crude oil rates have led to soaring domestic fuel prices.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares to meet the chief executives of major global and Indian oil and gas companies on Monday, as the US sanctions on Iran comes into effect from November 4, and as crude oil prices continue to be volatile. He is also expected discuss ways to revive investment in India's upstream sector.
