After a day’s halt, petrol prices edged higher by about 10 paise on Thursday while diesel continued to soar for the fourth consecutive day.
In Mumbai, petrol prices were at Rs 87.82 a litre, while diesel prices rose to Rs 78.22 a litre. In New Delhi, petrol and diesel prices were at Rs 82.36 a litre and Rs 74.62 a litre, respectively.
In Kolkata, petrol was at Rs 84.19, while diesel prices were at Rs 76.47 per litre. Whereas, petrol and diesel in Chennai were at Rs 85.61 per litre and Rs 78.90 per litre.
Since mid-August, the petrol and diesel prices had been on the rise after the daily price revision was introduced in mid-June last year. Various factors including rupee depreciation, high excise duty and rise in Brent crude oil rates have led to soaring domestic fuel prices.
The Centre on October 4 announced a Rs 2.50 per litre cut in petrol and diesel prices after it reduced excise duty by Rs 1.50 a litre.
