Universal basic income could cost us 1.8% of GDP, says P Chidambaram

"When fully rolled out, and when all the five crore families are covered, it will cost us about 1.8 percent of the GDP,” said Chidambaram, while breaking down the implementation of the Congress’ much-hyped Nyutam Aay Yojna (NYAY) scheme.
The Congress leader added that a total of Rs 6,000 per month would be transferred to every family, to the bank account of the “woman of the household”.
