Supreme Court on Tuesday said that March 31, 2018 is no more the deadline of linking Aadhaar numbers with an individual's bank accounts or mobile numbers.
This is not the first time SC has extended this deadline. In November, 2017 the top court had extended this deadline till March 31, 2018.
A five judge constitution bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A K Sikri, A M Khanwilkar, D Y Chandrachud and Ashok Bhushan has been formed to hear the pleas seeking a stay on government’s decision of mandatory linking of Aadhaar with welfare schemes, as well as essential services like banking and mobile phones.
SC, while hearing arguments on the case, said that the deadline is extended indefinitely till the judgment on the case is pronounced.
