With the sacking of their coach, Spain has scored their own goal even before the tournament has begun, said Debayan Sen, sports journalist with ESPN.
Today's clash between Spain and Portugal is the most hotly-anticipated World Cup group game.
Sen said team Spain can pull together, when they are in a crisis. But issue is always traditional club rivalry between Real Madrid FC and Barcelona FC.
Spain and Portugal both know that they are expected to proceed to the next round and they will probably play this match with a little bit of caution because they don’t want to lose this one, Sen said to CNBC-TV18.
Shabbir Ali, former India captain, said this is very big match and everybody was expecting that this will be round of 16 or round of 8.
"Both the teams - Cristiano Ronaldo is a European champion and they have got other players also and same is the case with Spain – all star studded team and it will be a very good match,” said Ali.
