Researchers initiate long-term monitoring of the Indian Himalayas to aid conservation

Updated : March 29, 2019 11:33 PM IST

Indian scientists have initiated long-term monitoring of Himalayan forest ecosystems to churn out reliable datasets that will aid conservation.
They have set up permanent research sites in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand and developed a protocol for this monitoring.
Long-term data sets and documentation of ongoing consequences of environmental changes and ecosystem processes are scanty for the Indian Himalayan region, making conservation efforts difficult.
