After the Skymet Weather predicted that monsoon rains will be below normal this year, Siraj Hussain, former agriculture secretary, on Wednesday said he is not disturbed with early forecasts.

After the Skymet Weather predicted that monsoon rains will be below normal this year, Siraj Hussain, former agriculture secretary, on Wednesday said he is not disturbed with early forecasts.
Hussain said, "The market gives too much attention to early forecast even though it is well known that the forecasts made in April are sometimes off the mark, especially the forecasts of monthly rainfall."
"There is no cause of concern with regards to food security as the government is sitting on a huge stock of wheat and rice. So no possibility of inflation in case of wheat, rice and pulses. However, vegetables have been in a negative zone," he added.
"There is a Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, which prepares the contingency plan for each district. So, plans are already available with district machinery,” he said.
