Italy reportedly allows India to host G20 meeting in 2022
Italian Prime Minister Guiseppe Conte has agreed to let India host the 2022 G20 meeting on the request of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, The Economic Times reported.
The development shows improvement in bilateral ties between the two nations following a 2012 incident when two Italian marines were accused of killing an Indian fishermen duo off the Kerala coast, the report said.
India was scheduled to host the G20 summit in 2021 and Italy in 2022. But Modi said he had requested Italy to host the summit in 2021 and allow India to host it in 2022, on the occasion of the 75th year of India’s independence, the report said citing people aware of the matter.
