In Pics: Heavy rainfall disrupts normal life in Mumbai; local trains affected, waterlogging on roads

Authorities have declared July 2 as a public holiday for all the government, as well as private schools in Mumbai even as heavy rains continue to lash the city on Tuesday. The city received a rainfall of 540 mm rain in two days, the highest over a two-day period in a decade. Normal life in the city has been disrupted as only some sections of the suburban railways are running as of Tuesday morning and road traffic was hit severely due to waterlogging in several areas. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted heavy rainfall in the city till July 5. The south-west monsoon has become active over Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha, where the IMD has predicted 'heavy to very heavy rainfall' for the next two days in isolated places near this region. Heavy rains are pummelling Mumbai since Sunday night. Here are the latest photos:
