ICICI Bank-Videocon deal: CBI registers case against Chanda Kochhar, Deepak Kochhar and Venugopal Dhoot

The CBI has registered a case against former ICICI MD and CEO Chandra Kochhar, her husband and Nupower Renewables MD Deepak Kochhar and Videocon group MD Venugopal Dhoot in connection with alleged irregularities in the Rs 3,250 crore ICICI Bank-Videocon loan case.
The agency conducted search operation on Thursday, covering offices of Nupower, a company operated by Kochhar's husband and Supreme Power.
It is alleged that Videocon promoter Venugopal Dhoot allegedly invested crores in Nupower months after the Videocon group got Rs 3,250 crore as loan from the ICICI Bank in 2012.
The ICICI Bank loan amount was a part of the Rs 40,000 crore-loan that Videocon secured from a consortium of 20 banks led by the State Bank of India (SBI).
The agency had registered a preliminary enquiry against Videocon promoter Venugopal Dhoot, Deepak Kochhar and unidentified others in March last year.
Kochhar is believed to have maintained that she had no information about her husband’s business dealings; the bank has given similar replies.
Kochhar was a part of erstwhile ICICI Limited since 1984, when she joined as a management trainee.
