    Smitha V Crishna, who hails from the storied Godrej clan and has a one-fifth stake in the family assets, holds a fortune Rs 37,570 crore, making her the wealthiest woman in India, a report by Kotak Wealth revealed Monday.

    She’s followed by Roshni Nadar, CEO of HCL Enterprise and the only child of HCL's founder Shiv Nadar, at Rs 30,200 crore.
    Crishna, 67, is the sister of industrialist Jamshyd Godrej. She made news a few years ago when she purchased Mehrangir, a bungalow in south Mumbai, that was formerly home to nuclear physicist Homi Bhabha. The price tag of Rs 372 crore, plus the legacy attached to the property made it one of the most spoken of real estate deals in the city.
    Crishna's husband Vijay Crishna is a well-known theatre actor and her daughter Nyrika Holkar works with the Godrej Group.
    Indu Jain, the current chairperson of India's largest media group, Bennett, Coleman & Co, holds the third spot with a fortune of about Rs 26,240 core. Jain is not only an entrepreneur but also an educationalist, a spiritualist, a humanist and a sponsor of art and culture.
    According to the report, 50 percent of the richest women in India belong to metro cities like Mumbai and Delhi, followed by Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chennai, Vishakhapatnam, Noida and Pune.
