Fuel prices cut for the second day, petrol at Rs 87.84 per litre in Mumbai
Fuel prices fell for the second consecutive

day on Friday with the petrol price in Mumbai cut by 24 paise to Rs 87.84 per litre and the diesel price cut by 11 paise to Rs 79.13 per litre.

The fuel prices were also cut across the three metros - New Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai.

In New Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai, petrol prices were at Rs 82.38 a litre, Rs 84.21 a litre and Rs 85.63 per litre, while diesel stood Rs 75.48 a litre, Rs 77.33 a litre and Rs79.82 a litre, respectively.

Since mid-August, petrol and diesel prices have been on the rise. Various factors including rupee depreciation, high excise duty and rise in Brent crude oil rates have led to soaring domestic fuel prices.

The Delhi Petrol Dealers Association (DPDA) has called for a shut-down of 400-odd petrol pumps in Delhi on October 22-23 to press for reduction in value added tax (VAT) by Delhi government on diesel and petrol.

Earlier this month, the government reduced excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 1.50 per litre and said the oil marketing companies (OMC) will absorb the impact to the tune of Re 1 per litre.
