Former SC judge BN Srikrishna to probe allegations against ICICI Bank's Kochhar, says report
Former Supreme Court Judge BN Srikrishna will investigate various allegations of impropriety against ICICI Bank Chief Executive Chanda Kochhar,  The Economic Times reported on Friday.
The development comes after the bank said last month that it would be instituting an inquiry into the accusations, the report said citing an unidentified person with direct knowledge of the matter.
Srikrishna will investigate whether Kochhar violated the bank’s code of conduct and whether she had any involvement in quid pro quo transactions with certain bank borrowers, according to the report.
“The board felt he would be the best person to conduct this inquiry. He has accepted the request…Justice Srikrishna is an independent and credible name, who has a good understanding of the financial markets,” the Economic Times reported quoting the unidentified person close to the matter as saying.
Srikrishna, 77, had also headed the commission that investigated the communal riots that took place in Mumbai in 1992-93. After retiring from the Supreme Court, he has been working as an independent arbitrator, the newspaper reported.
