Updated : January 02, 2020 05:41 PM IST

Tonnes of fish, including juvenile and edible ones are being processed for fish meal and fish oil (FMFO) industry, resulting in the collapse of fish stocks and marine ecology, imbalances in food security and severe environmental issues.
India’s aquafeed market has been valued at $1.20 billion but there are no particular laws to regulate the FMFO plants.
The study also found that the industry along the Indian coast is violating norms related to the protection of coastal areas and water pollution.
