The consumer price index (CPI), an important parameter to gauge inflation, data for December will come on Monday, January 13, 2020.

CPI will be watched out for because the figure is expected to come above 6 percent. CPI for November had already hit 40-month high at about 5.54 percent, but this time around the CPI is expected to harden to all the way up to around 6.5 percent odd. The range for CPI is very important because it is quite wide. It is anywhere between 5.8 and 6.9 percent. So, there are estimates which are as high as 6.9 percent for this time’s figure.

Core CPI is expected to be flattish to harden marginally to around 3.7 percent in December against 3.5 percent for the previous month . The range is between 3.5 and 3.9 percent.

CPI is expected to lead by higher food prices. So, food prices are expected to rise more than 11 percent against the double digit figure in November.
