Kavinder Singh, MD of Mahindra Holidays and Resorts India and Rajesh Magow, co-founder and CEO-India of MakeMyTrip, spoke to CNBC-TV18 about the underlying sentiment in the travel and leisure sector and growth prospects.
Singh said, "The occupancies in our 58 resorts around the country and internationally are reasonably robust."
“We are seeing demand picking up particularly in the third and fourth week of December and that’s the time the holiday season starts,” he added.
On the travel destination front, Singh said, “Rajasthan is a hot favourite, all our Rajasthan resorts are running full. Goa is an all-time favourite and we are also noticing a huge uptick in eastern resorts in the north eastern resorts that we have.”
Talking about trends for the next year, he said, “My view is that we are at an inflection point. The per capital, USD 2000 that’s the level that now we are reaching at a country level and we believe that this will spur huge amount of consumption particularly holidaying, leisure, food and exploring new destinations.”
Magow said that the civil aviation growth has been very healthy and that has boosted the domestic travel.
On outbound travel front, he said, “We have seen that as a big emerging trend. To give a number, for the last 3-4 years we have seen outbound travel growing 5x-6x on our platform at a healthy base.”
Talking about predatory pricing he said, "Predatory pricing concern by hoteliers is blown out of proportion."
