Cab aggregator Uber's food delivery and restaurant finder app Uber Eats released 'The Eats Cravings Report 2019' on Monday, showing the trends of what Indians generally preferred while ordering food through the service.
Apart from the condiments — 'extra sauce' or 'extra spicy' — the food items ordered generally range from Chicken Biryani to (wait for it) Maggi.
The analysis was conducted during summer, between January and May. Uber Eats first entered Mumbai in May 2017 and is now operating in 38 cities across the country.
Let's take a look at the city-wise demand:
    • Chicken Biryani: Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata
    • No shockers here. Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad have lip-smacking biryanis and the cities are popular for their respective biryanis. While Hyderabad has the famous Andhra-style biryani and also accommodates the popular biryani restaurant, Paradise, Chennai has the famous Dindigul and Chettinad style. Kolkata has its own delicacy, among which is the fish biryani.
      • Chaat: Pune, Jaipur
      • The cities are known for their chaats. Apart from the regulars such as Pani Puri and Bhel Puri, the cities offer their homegrown items. Pune comes with what Maharashtra has to offer — Missal Pav, Ussal Pav, Dabeli, among others, while Jaipur comes with its famous kachoris — Pyaaz Kachori, Raj Kachori, among others
        • Classic Maggi: Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Pune, Jaipur and Chennai.
        • Indians prefer to order restaurant-made Maggi rather than making it at home themselves. This could be because of the way restaurants make it. It's usually pan-fried, with vegetables. Many also offer different variants in Maggi such as Cheese Maggi, Butter Maggi, Egg Maggi, among others.
          • Burgers: Bengaluru.
          • The city comes with many burger joints. It also accommodates Bengaluru-originated Truffles, which is among the most popular eateries in the city, known for its burgers and steaks.
            • The western cities, home to a large population of Jains, such as Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Surat saw a huge spike in demand in Jain dishes.
