Surrounded by three different borders, Sikkim is a state located in northeastern India. It borders Tibet in the north, Bhutan in the east and West Bengal in the west. Itinerary may vary depending on the time as one can decide to cover Sikkim and Bhutan together or only Sikkim at one go.
Sikkim is one of the states which is the least populous and second smallest state in India. Gangtok is Sikkim’s capital and largest city in the state. The state is one of the most notable states for its beauty, glacial lakes, waterfalls, monastery towns and beautiful long drive experiences.
Almost 35 percent of the state is covered by the Khangchendzonga National Park located in Sikkim and it was inscribed to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list in 2016. Sikkim being one of the most beautiful and perfect scenic natural beauty with peace, it is really isn’t part of all traveller’s list. Best time to visit Sikkim is from March to May.
However, monsoon season in Sikkim lasts from July to September and you can expect heavy showers. Also, you can get heavy discounts during the rainy time. But, if you really want to enjoy winter adventures, then the perfect time is from October to March. You can go skiing and snowboarding in the winter season here.
Travel to Gangtok
Bagdogra International Airport located in Darjeeling District of West Bengal is the nearest airport to visit Sikkim. From the airport, you can drive to Gangtok, which is 123 kilometres away and travel time is approximately 4-5 hours. Always plan the trip in advance and book your cab beforehand to avoid hassle free journey from the airport.
To cover the whole Sikkim, let’s divide the trip into two parts and book tour packages accordingly. Climate acclimatisation is recommended.
