The accident occurred around 3pm on Sunday as the vehicle, which was travelling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai, hit the divider, the Palghar police said. Four people were travelling in the Mercedes and two people died — Mistry and Jehangir Dinsha Pandole. The other two — Darius Pandole & Dr Anahita Pandole (the driver) — are injured, police said.
Cyrus Mistry and Jehangir Pandole died on the spot. They were declared brought dead by a team of doctors in Palghar's government hospital.
Anahita and Darius are being airlifted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.  The mortal remains of Mistry and Jehangir are being taken to JJ hospital in Mumbai, for postmortem, by road. The mortal remains are being escorted by Maharashtra police squads.
A forensic team reached the accident spot later to collect samples, to chain the sequence of events that led to the accident. CCTV cameras on the route would be able be checked to establish what led to the accident. As it is a high-end vehicle, police said they will also try to retrieve data from the vehicle, if available.
The vehicle was travelling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai when it hit a divider in Palghar, Maharashtra.
Darius Pandole was an independent director in the Tata group firms. He supported Cyrus Mistry when he was ousted as the Tata Sons Chairman. He left Tata Group firms after Mistry was ousted. Jehangir Pandole was Darius' father. Dr Anahita Pandole is Darius' wife. Both, Anahita and Darius were taken to a hospital in Vapi before being airlifted to Mumbai.
Mistry was born on July 4, 1968. He was the younger son of Pallonji Mistry, who was the Head of the Shapoorji Pallonji (SP) Group.
Cyrus was married to Rohiqa Chagla, the daughter of Iqbal Chagla, one of India's most prominent lawyers. He completed his education at Mumbai's Cathedral and John Cannon School and moved to England for higher education. He completed his civil engineering from Imperial College and had a management degree from London Business School.
Cyrus entered the family business in 1991 as the director of Shapoorji Pallonji Group. Under him, the SP Group expanded into large engineering projects, factories and power plants. He took his father's place on the board of Tata Sons in 2006. Pallonji Mistry was the single largest shareholder of Tata Sons.
Cyrus was appointed as the Deputy Chairman of Tata in November 2011 and as the Chairman of Tata Sons in 2012, succeeding Ratan Tata. He was ousted as Tata Sons Chairman in 2016. Disagreement with a family member of Tata Group on business strategy was one of the reasons for the same.
