customers seamless connectivity to Japan and vice versa.
Codesharing allows an airline to book its passengers on its partner carriers and provide seamless travel to destinations where it has no presence.
This will be Vistara's fourth codeshare partnership globally. Apart from Japan Airlines, Vistara has signed agreements with Singapore Airlines, SilkAir-Singapore based airline company and British Airways.
As part of the agreement, Japan Airlines will add its 'JL' designator code to approximately 32 Vistara flights operating across Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Pune.
Vistara will become the only codeshare partner of Japan Airlines, once the deal is signed between the two companies, the press released said, adding that the sale of tickets will open on February 26, 2019, across all the channels for travel from February 28, 2019.
Japan Airlines customers travelling on Vistara will enjoy complimentary meals and will be able to choose between three different cabins, including India’s only Premium Economy class. Japan Airlines Mileage Bank members can also earn miles when booking on ‘JL’ coded Vistara flights, the press release said.
The codeshare flights will offer convenient connections to and from a daily flight that JAL already operates to Delhi directly from Tokyo Narita, said the statement.
"We're delighted to further strengthen our partnership with Japan Airlines with this codeshare agreement. This partnership helps us offer greater convenience and variety of choice to customers with a comprehensive network, " said Sanjiv Kapoor, chief strategy and commercial officer, Vistara.
The New Delhi-based airline currently operates over 800 flights per week to 22 domestic destinations.
