Mumbai and Delhi airports will close their runways for maintenance at different periods from next month till the first quarter of 2019, The Economic Times reported.
According to the report, more than 2,000 flights are expected to be cancelled or rescheduled in this period. The runway in the Delhi airport will be closed for 13 days in November and in Mumbai, the airport will remain shut for six hours, thrice a week, between February 7 next year and end of March, the report said.
Airport operators told the newspaper that the runways needed repair and the maintenance was planned with all stakeholders, including airlines. Runway 27, Delhi airport's oldest runway, will be closed starting November 15.
In Mumbai, the runway will be closed from 11 am to 5 pm in that period, according to the report. Mumbai’s airport will be closed also for a few hours for runway maintenance on October 23, which is set to impact at least 32 flights.
