A proposed change in the norm which directed airlines to pay more compensation, if the flight was delayed, cancelled or if the flyer misses catching the connecting flight, has been kept on hold after the airlines opposed the proposed rules, Business Standard reported.

The proposed rules were publicly declared in May and the final set of rules were to come out on July 15, the report said.
The finances of the airlines have come under pressure due to the depreciating rupee, change in the aviation turbine fuel pricing norms and rising oil prices.
"In a recent meeting, the airlines have said that no intervention has come from the government in terms of policy to reduce the cost of doing business. In such times, any additional input cost will be detrimental to the sector," as source told the newspaper.
