Last minute airfares may rise as much as 30 percent as the Mumbai airport will remain shut for six hours daily for 22 days in February and March for upgrade work on runways, Business Standard reported.

There will be no flight movements between 11 AM and 5 PM every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at Mumbai from February 7 to March 30 due to the re-carpeting of the intersection of two runways, the report said.
The airport will remain open on March 21, a Thursday, on the occasion of Holi, added the report.
The re-carpeting work at the Mumbai airport is being carried out to prevent degradation of runways, which handle about 950 flights daily, including 30-35 charter and private aircraft flights, the report said.
