Budget carrier Indigo will begin services to Vietnam with a direct daily flight to Hanoi from Kolkata starting from October 3. Hanoi, the capital city of the Southeast Asian nation, will be the airline's 19th overseas and 75th overall destination.
The bookings for the route have opened already, with one-way fare starting at Rs 9999.
“It is truly a very special moment for all of us at IndiGo as it is the first route connecting Kolkata to Hanoi. This milestone reflects our relentless focus and commitment, while enabling the government’s “Act East” vision, in further strengthening the network between eastern corridors of India and the Southeast Asia region,” William Boulter, chief commercial officer, IndiGo, said in the statement.
He further added that the carrier will continue to expand its network to meet the requirements of both business and leisure travellers across domestic and international destinations.
Interglobe Aviation, which operates Indigo, reported its highest ever quarterly profits at Rs 1,203 crore for the three months to June, boosted by strong passenger revenue and cargo performance.
Indigo, the largest domestic carrier commanding nearly half of the 12.02 million passenger traffic, operates over 1,400 daily flights with a fleet of 238.
