Boeing's Big Bet
The 737 MAX 8 is the newest version of the airplane maker’s bestselling jet of all time.
Boeing has bet big on the success of the 737 MAX series planes. The company has said it has secured more than 4,700 orders.
The MAX 8 is aimed as Boeing's answer to Airbus' A320neo. As it happens with other markets, it could find itself losing ground to its European archival should aviation authorities decide to ground the Max or a major flaw is discovered.
Indian Customers
The Boeing 737 MAX 8 is used by two Indian airlines: Jet Airways and SpiceJet. Jet has grounded all the MAX planes because of a severe cash crunch while SpiceJet can fly the planes per aviation regulator DGCA’s new safety guidelines.
Features
The 129-feet long Boeing 737 MAX 8 model, with a wingspan of 117 feet, went on sale in 2017. The aircraft is mainly used by airlines for long-haul flights.  By length, the MAX 8 is longer than the previous 737 MAX models.
The range, how much distance the aircraft can cover in one filling of the fuel tank, of MAX 8 is 6,570 kms. It is, however, lesser than the MAX 7, which has a range of 7,130 kms.
The LEAP-1B from CFM International is the engine used for all the models in the Boeing 737 MAX series. The engine weighs 2,780 kgs, the lightest among their three LEAP air turbine engine models CFM offers. The engine is fuel efficient and helps the aircraft have a powerful take-off weight. The engine is also noise-less, aiming to give passengers a peaceful experience.
The flight can accommodate 210 people on board with the option of having two classes which are mostly — Economy and Business or First Class.
The interiors of the aircraft are also appealing. LED lights, electronic device holders and faux leather seats are some of the features of the aircraft.
