Delhi has been battling with a pollution crisis for a while now and air pollution levels in Delhi are alarming and hazardous.

To deal with rising air pollution, Delhi cabinet has given the green signal for 1,000 low floor electric buses.

Delhi integrated multi-modal transit system (dimts) will be consulted for the project and a report has to be submitted within 3 months.

The fleet of electric buses is set to modernise Delhi's transport sector and reduce air pollution.

With these buses, the Delhi government hopes to go reduce overall vehicular emissions in Delhi.

The transport department has identified 6 locations to construct bus depots for the electric buses. The locations are East Vinod Nagar, Bawana sector 5, Burari, Rohini sector 37, Revla khanpur and Narela.

The transport department has also been directed to explore the possibility of hydrogen buses as suggested by the Supreme Court.

The government identified 26 short and long-term measures to combat air pollution which included introducing electric buses.

Trial run for the electric buses has been conducted in Delhi with buses supplied by BYD from China and Tata Motors.

The tenders for supplying electric buses will be floated this year and the government is hopeful that the buses to hit the road by June 2019.
