Tata Motors chief says company will soon unveil new electric car based on Alpha platform: report

Tata Motors is likely to unveil an electric car based on its new Alpha platform as a part of its long-term plan to be ready for supportable mobility, Business Standard reported.

"I can't promise much but stay tuned to the announcements in the coming weeks. You will actually see something that reminds of EVision sedan, but on the Alpha architecture," Guenter Karl Butschek, managing director and CEO of the company told the paper, pointing that the two new platforms — Omega and Alpha — are 'battery electric protected'.

The concept of EVision, based on the Omega platform, was showcased at 2018 Geneva Auto Show. The platform allows the battery to be placed on the car's floor which can give a smooth ride and keep the quality, he said, adding Alpha gives the flexibility to switch from hybrid to completely electric, the chief explained to the paper.

On Wednesday, Tata launched its SUV Harrier based on their Omega platform with a starting price of Rs 12.9 lakh.
