Maruti Suzuki's diesel phase-out move: Here are the cars that may go off the market

Updated : April 30, 2019 07:58 PM IST

During Maruti Suzuki's Q4 earnings call, the auto company surprised the market by announcing that it is phasing out all its diesel cars by April 1, 2020. RC Bhargava, the chairman of the company, said that the diesel cars took a hit due to crude oil prices, impact of general elections, a downturn in market and impact of price hike post-BS-VI.

The prices of diesel cars are set to be substantially higher than the petrol and CNG models with the implementation of Bharat Stage-VI fuel emission norms and hence, are not likely to attract consumers, Bhargava had added.

Here are the cars which can phase out next year:

Maruti Swift: The first ever Maruti Swift was launched in May 2005 in petrol and diesel variants. It is still among the most popular Indian cars. The newly launched Swift is priced at Rs 8.86 lakh for diesel and Rs 5.99 lakh for petrol. (Image: MSI website)
