Bengaluru may have the dubious distinction of being one of India’s most traffic-choked metropolises, but the garden city could well be on its way to being its most forgetful one, as well. A study by cab-aggregator Uber has revealed that if you live in Bengaluru, Delhi or Mumbai, you’re likely to have forgotten one or some of your belongings in a cab. But that’s not all.

While phones and backpacks top the list of items left behind in an Uber — no surprises there — there are some less conventional ones that riders have forgotten. These range from strollers and knee pads to ukuleles, crocs (people still wear them?) and even live fish! Mundane possessions like keys, clothing, phone chargers and umbrellas make up the middle.
If you’re riding in an Uber over the weekend, you might want to be extra careful. Uber’s lost and found index revealed that you’re likelier to be absent-minded between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm (blame it on your weekend brunch, perhaps?) on Saturday and Sunday (we don’t blame you; it’s probably the after-effects of a busy week).
There’s something about September that makes Uber’s riders a bit more forgetful. September 1, 2 and 8 last year, saw some of its most forgetful riders (think hard: when did you misplace that yoga mat? September, was it?).
Jokes aside, there’s actually a way to recover your lost possessions from your Uber. Open up your app, and hit the ‘menu’ icon. Select the trip where you remember having left behind one of your possessions, click ‘report an issue with this trip’, and select ‘I lost an item’. Uber then lets you re-connect with your driver to recover your lost item.
If you’ve forgotten your phone, you can leave behind a friend’s contact number to connect with that of the driver’s. Uber Support gets in on the act in case you’re unable to contact the driver.
Now that you know how to find what was once lost (as biblical and prophetic as that sounds), get back and hit your Uber ride up. But there’s a simpler, solution: check your seat before you leave! Oh, and hold on to the fish. And the yoga mat.
