According to the results updated on the Election Commission website on Sunday, Oommen Chandy has polled 63,372 votes, while his nearest Jaick C Thomas of CPM has got 54,328 votes.

Congress candidate and former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy has won the Puthuppally assembly seat in Kerala by defeating CPM candidate Jaick C Thomas by 9,044 votes.


According to the results updated on the Election Commission website on Sunday, Oommen Chandy has polled 63,372 votes, while his nearest Jaick C Thomas of CPM has got 54,328 votes.

Puthuppally is an Assembly constituency in the Kottayam district, in the Travancore region of Kerala. The Puthuppally constituency went to the polls on April 6, 2021. The assembly seat is reserved for the General category.

In the 2016 Assembly elections, Puthuppally was won by Oommen Chandy of CPIM. Before that, in the 2011 elections, the seat was held by Oommen Chandy of INC.

In the 2016 assembly polls, Oommen Chandy garnered 71597 votes, securing over 53.42 percent of the vote share, and winning the seat by a margin of 27092 votes.

In percentage terms, the victory margin was 20.21 percent. The constituency polled 134055 votes in the 2016 Kerala assembly polls with a voter turnout of 77.38 percent. The Puthuppally constituency has a literacy level of 96.4 percent. A total of 10 candidates stood in the 2016 elections.
